Oooo, another exciting assignment from Jessica. This time, I get to share about the state I currently reside in- Florida.
I’m not from here. I grew up in the New England state of Connecticut. And then, after college, I lived in the Midwestern state of Ohio for some time. Ohio, also known as the Buckeye State, is where a lot of my extended family live. It’s where I still have a lot of friends, where I met and married my husband, and where my son was born.
But Florida is where I am now, and hopefully where I will stay. I love it here.
Having been here for four years, or most of my son’s elementary school career, I pretty much consider myself a local now. So, why do I love this state so much?
Let’s face it- I live where pretty much everyone else wants to go for vacation.
Florida is the number one vacation destination in the world, and Families flock here from all over the globe. This is in part thanks to Universal and Walt Disney World. But we are also the home to the Kennedy Space Center, Lego Land, South Beach, Busch Gardens, and Key West.
Oh, and did you by chance hear about our beaches? Clearwater Beach is continuously rated as one of the top ten in the World, and that’s just one of them. There’s also St Pete Beach, Longboat Key, Siesta Key, Amelia Island, Panama City, and because it’s more than just a hot spot for nightlife, South Beach.
With no less than three major tv markets (Miami, Tampa and Orlando), and one decent midsize one (Jacksonville), we have no shortage of professional sports here.
In Tampa alone, we have the Lightning (NHL), the Buccaneers (NFL), and the Rays (MLB). An hour’s drive to Orlando, and you’ve got the Magic (NBA). We’re also home to spring training to many other major league baseball teams (Yankees, Pirates, Phillies, Blue Jays), and several minor league teams.
Tampa is also host to two College Football Bowl games a year (Gasparilla and Outback), and frequently hosts the College Football Championship game. We’re also getting ready to host the Super Bowl again in 2021.
Is Auto racing your thing? Tampa hosts the St. Petersburg Grand Prix every year, and we are only a few hours away from the Daytona 500 and Sebring.
Regular Family Life
I’m a working Mom, so my life involves a lot more than beaches and sporting events. Actually, one of the main reasons we moved down here to Florida was because of a job opportunity. Tampa, Orlando, and Miami are all bustling metros, with lots of different industries. Finance, Construction, Medical, Education are just some of the areas you can find lots of open positions in, on top of all the work available in hospitality.
Florida is also a good place to raise a family. One of the reasons I specifically like Tampa is that it feels a lot like the Midwest to me (not weather-wise of course). It probably has a little to do with the fact that there’s a lot of transplants from the Midwest here, but it’s just a friendly place to live.
And we have a lot of the family-oriented things that you would want in your city, such as Scouts, a vibrant YMCA, great parent-teacher organizations, and lots of parks.
If you ever want to move to Florida, there are some things you should probably know. First, it’s hot and humid during the extra-long summer, and the Mosquitos are relentless year-round.
Traffic is insane no matter which one of our major cities that you live close to. There are never any shortcuts, and everything is a toll road. If you’re lucky enough to live near water, like we are, your rush hour commute may have the extra bonus of needing to cross the only bridge that can get you and everyone else to where you’re going.
There are no income taxes in Florida, yay! So, they make up for it in everything else, Nooo!
License plate renewal fees, sales taxes, property taxes, they get you everywhere. Which is probably part of the reason why the cost of living is a little higher here than in the Midwest.
Oh, and we also have hurricanes and alligators. And did I mention the &%#@ mosquitos.
I love it here
Yes, we have bugs, but here are some things we don’t have- snow, ice, sleet, slush, polar vortexes, short summers, freezing winters.
We have jobs, sports, beaches, amusement parks.
And we have water. As I get stuck on the bridge in rush hour traffic, I stare off into the big, beautiful Tampa Bay waters, and all of my troubles just seem to float away.
I realize how lucky I am to live here. I may be from New England, and maybe turned into a little bit of a midwestern girl during my time in Ohio. But I’m in Florida now, and I love it here.

I do still have some states that I do not have bloggers for and would greatly appreciate a re-blog, tweet, share anything you can do to help me find someone to blog from the states that I do not have someone for.
STILL NEED LIST:
Thank you for reading and leave a comment below with which state you are looking forward to hearing about!
One of my goals this year is to read 10 books and do a book review on each one. Ann Marie Ruby was kind enough to gift me this book to do a review for her. It is my first one and I am excited, inspired and I hope to read more of her books!
It is my goal to keep it real and tell you how I really feel about each and every book.
Here is the cover of her book and if you are interested on how she picked the cover she covers that in her blog! How neat is it to hear the thought process on the cover of the book!
This is the summary from Amazon on what the book is about:
What are prayers ? Why are prayers but the sweet songs of a thirsty soul?
Where and when there is no hope, prayers but open the doors to hope. Whether or not one is religiously affiliated, this book is but a hope for everyone. Awaken from within yourself through the sweet songs of a prayer. Within this sacred book, there are one hundred and twenty three prayers I but call Songs.
From the unknown darkness through the first peek of dawn, I waited for an answer to my prayers. Throughout the day, I searched everywhere for an answer to my prayers. I knocked upon all doors until I knew I must open the doors myself. After a long journey through the obstacles of life, for all of you seeking a prayer to find hope within, or to just recite in union with your fellow human, I give you my book of prayers I but call Spiritual Songs.
Where there is no hope, find hope within a prayer. When you are but lost and stranded, hold on to the words of a prayer. When you are being judged by another soul, do remember we are all but the judged.
Hold on to this sacred book as you find within yourself the first sight of hope within the words of a sweet prayer. May we the humans unite within one prayer, the prayer of a human soul. There is only one house and one family where we the humans but belong. This house is the house of prayers, the sweet songs of the human mind, body, and soul, where we but ask, seek, and knock for only the blessed candles of hope.
For all humans, I give my book of prayers to hold on to as you but walk through this life, only to unite all humans within one song, one prayer. I call this book,
Spiritual Songs II: Blessings From A Sacred Soul.
Spiritual Songs II: Blessings From A Sacred Soul is a prayer book that takes you on a journey. Each song (which is a prayer) takes you deeper and deeper in your faith through mind, body and soul. This book let me see God’s blessings in a way I needed. I believe that this book will help each person grow deeper in their faith if they let it. I do recommend this book and highly recommend taking the time to read the behind the scenes of the book too! As I take the time to do a little bit more reading into Ann Marie Ruby’s blog it helps me see how each of these songs is written by her and leaves you inspired!
Quick reminder if you are not a spiritual type of person than this book might not be what you need/want. If you are then I do recommend you to get this book, take the time to read it and digest everything it has to offer!
Here are some of my favorites from the book and even my cat buddy liked to snuggle and read with me!

This giveaway will end on March 21,2019 at 8pm CST.
February was a great month and March is going to be even better! Why, because it is ALMOST SPRING AND WARMER WEATHER IS ON ITS WAY!
I will write in red for my goals achieved and/or might not have achieved, but working on.
1. Make a #lovestory series with other bloggers for the entire month of February.
I learned doing a full month series is hard work, but it is also something I enjoyed. Not only was I able to read about other people’s love stories. I got to get to know other bloggers on a more personal level. I plan on doing another #lovestory next Febuary, so if you are interested, please reach out.
I also plan on doing 1-3 series with guest bloggers each year and 1-3 for myself too. Currently I am doing #blogsofdogs and its a photo challenge where I post my dog’s photos every day this month and everyone else can also post their dog and link or comment with their blog post.
2. Do a book review.
I am currently reading 2 books, I was just going to read 1 and then do my book review, but for some reason I started 1; lost my kindle so then I started a paper back book. So, in March I am hoping I will get 2 book reviews out.
3. Post a blog Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
I did get to do every Monday for Music Monday, but I did not get to do every Wednesday and Friday.
4. Get more blog friends on twitter and Instagram.
I for sure got my twitter blogger friends! Instgram… not so much, but I did get a few!
1. Go through all clothing and get rid of everything that does not fit. Too big. Too small. Should I do an inventory and make outfits?
We have 2 dressers and a closet. I have gone through 1 dresser of clothing, but the top and bottom drawers are “junk drawers”, so I want to go through those get rid of 1 dresser. I did not do that this month, so maybe next! I think it is because we had less days in February or am I just making an excuse, I don’t know. HA! HA!
2. Read at least one book this month. My goal for the year is 10.
I read over 1/2 on one book and about 1/2 on another. So, yes I read, but I did not finish the book.
3. Drink less soda, more water.
TOTAL SUCCESS ON THIS!!
4. Work out for 30 minutes at least 3 times a week, maybe more!
The first part of the month I did great! Then I did a work out that really worked my lower back and I hurt it, so I could not work out, doctors orders! The last part of the month I did great though! So I will consider it a success since I did work out when I could!
5. Less junk food, more healthy!
I did this! It works best when you plan meals ahead of time!
February was a successful month in blogging! I work full time as a medical assistant (40+ hours a week) and I feel like I might have over did my goals for the month of February. Be on the look at soon for my March goals! I am hoping I will make better goals and will be able to achieve all of them!
March 30 is our dog Oreo’s Birthday! To celebrate I will be doing a #dogsofblogs post everyday! I want to celebrate all dogs! I will post a photo of Oreo by himself, with our cat or with someone in our family. After I post you are welcome to join the #dogsofblogs challenge and post your dogs photo and link back to my page.
My promise to you is I will comment on each link back. #dogsofblogschallenge
I will post my #dogsofblogs every day at 6am CST. You are welcome to use the graphic at the end if you like.
Oreo is a Japanese chin and chihuahua mix, we named him Oreo because he is black and white.
Randy, Ethan and I all went to Chicago last year for a long weekend. We took the train which was a lot of fun. The train ride is not too long. Once we got to Chicago it was raining and since it was our first time there we did not know where to go. Once we figured everything out we got a bus pass and went on our way to our hotel. We dropped everything off at the hotel and we were ready to eat. We went to Giordano’s and it was delish! The boys keep on saying that we have to go back soon just for the pizza! After we ate we walked around the city for a while and then went back to the hotel and went to bed.
In the monring we went to the Shedd Aquarium which is one of my favorit spots! There is tons of fish, turtles, sharks, beluga whales, and much more to see there including dolphin shows! Oh yes, don’t forget to pet the sting rays too! While we were there we had lunch and I tried a Chicago style hot dog. I am happy I tried it, but I will not eat it again.
After that went to the Navy Pier looked at the Ferris wheel, looked at the shops and spent time there.
We then went to the Museum of Science and Industry Science is so interesting when they make it hands on! I learned so much there! It was a great place to spend the afternoon. We did a cole mine tour. That was very informative and interesting. Even saw a baby bird hatch! They were all so cute!
Off to Millennium Park to see the Cloud Gate (Bean) and Crown Fountain. Ethan did play in the water which was fun to watch and we went and go him a new Chicago shirt. After that we went to the Sky Deck and looked around and took some photos. It was really high up! After that we went to the hotel and went to bed. It was a long and fun day.
Once we woke up we got some breakfast and went on the bus to head home from the train station. The train ride was very long on the way home because we had to wait for another condtor to drive. They are only allowed to drive for so long. Randy worked on his video, Ethan did his homework, played on his phone and read. I posted photo’s and read. My mom and dad picked us up and we went to get our dog and go home to bed. It was a very fun trip that I hope we get to go and do again some time and check out other activities that we did not get to do this time around.
It all started in March of 2010. I was 19 Living in Las Vegas, NV trying to make it big. What better way than to hustle, perfume hustling that is. (Yep you read that right) jumping out of our cars and selling perfume out of our trunks.
I had just gotten back from a week-long trip out of state with the company and they ask if I want to go on another one? Well yeah, I’m 19, of course, I want to go! Now funny thing back then I was quite the introvert. But I was okay with talking to strangers trying to sell them perfume.
On our last day before driving home we all went to the beach. This new girl walks up to me and asks to borrow my phone. I said sure. She took my phone so I could get thrown into the waves by some friends. We laugh it off, then we get ready to head home. Last minute I get asked if I can take someone else in my car. See this extra person was the girl who took my phone. Cute new girl. Ashley’s her name.
On the way home I was talking about a party that I was going to and out of nowhere in the back seat I hear, party? I wanna party! With the sweet soft voice. She’s my age and she’s cute so sure. We exchange numbers and I dropped her off first. One of the main things I remember about that day is we met her mom and she was so sweet reminded me of my mom trying to get ready for Easter…
After we leave I ask one of my friends to text her and ask if she’s gay, bi or what? Her response for the first time in her 20 years of living she says undecided. I get so excited about seeing this girl again I even tell my mom about her when I get home!
Fast forward to the party and I drink too much and literally pass out on the porcelain throne. What a great impression.
Ashley ends up crushing on my friend who threw the party. This friend is a major player that everyone has been hypnotized by.
Fast forward a couple weeks, Ashley wants to hang out after getting broken about the player. I also was crushing on girls but not settling down. I tell my best friend John. There’s this girl really cute and really sweet I think you’d really like her. Let’s all hang out.
We ended up getting together and they ended up exchanging numbers and dating. Cool, I just got another best friend. One night we are all driving home and we got pulled over. John was driving and ends up he had some warrants and went to jail that night.
Ashley and I start hanging out daily, we really became inseparable. At this point, everyone is telling me you love her. I’m like no we’re just friends.
There was an LGBT pride festival coming up so I am so excited I hype her up and we go together. That’s where sparks flew. We had a blast, I took her dancing and it was a great time. In the meantime, John gets out but we’re all still friends.
One night we all go out to shoot pool as a group. We both went into the bathroom together and she jumps on me and starts telling me she loves me, not weird or different at all we are best friends we always say we love each other. This time it just felt different. Then one of our other friends walks in and is like oh sorry hope I’m not interrupting anything (jokingly)
Ashley ends up telling John it’s just not working out… they had already gotten an apartment together so they had to break the lease…one night she asks me over and we go in the hot tub and he decided he was going to walk around watching us. That was the first time we had really kissed.
Of course, our friend’s group split up and everyone was mad as rumors flew. We never let that get us down! We always said getting together was worth it!
We dated, we had our ups and downs. I cheated. We were young. We went to couples therapy. From then we never left each other’s side. We moved to Flagstaff, AZ. We got married before same-sex marriage was legal. We had the most beautiful ceremony and got legally married a year later. I came out as transgender in 2015. All though she was scared and didn’t know if she could “love a man” we got through it. She came to me and said we will take this one day at a time, I don’t care if you’re a man or a woman I love you for you, not your gender. She needed time to mourn her wife to truly love her husband.
We just bought our first house in Northern NJ and we are expecting our first baby in April!
This is a true love story! Everyone sees us as couples goals but I always remind them about the bad that made us stronger together to make it to the good. Love is hard, you have to continuously work on it. Never take it for granted!
I’m Kristin aka Kris the trans dad behind the screen. I’m a dad of five dogs! Our first born is due April 10th! Writing a blog about the strengths and struggles of being a trans parent. Trying to build a community of parents helping parents.
YES YES YES!!!! This is one super story here! I enjoyed every bit of it and I am so excited to see/hear about becoming parents together! You are correct marriage is not always easy, but with the right person it is always worth it!
It started on the day of a concert I’d been waiting for. I invited my sister a couple of months before, so I called her on that evening to ask where we would meet. Her tone was surprised “Concert?”. And with that, I knew that I didn’t have anyone to go with. It took my half an hour to convince myself to go anyway, so I got dressed.
When my mother came to check on me she was furious. No wonder, I was barely wearing anything, just leather shorts and a band tee. She forbid me from going out dressed like that.
So I waited until she went back to her room, then hurried outside. I walked to the city center in heels, so by the time I got there my feet started hurting. I sat down at a bench, as the concert was still half an hour away. Then I got a call from my sister, inviting me for a glass of wine.
So I went. She gave me a few bottles of cider as well, just enough to set the mood, then sent me on my way.
Now, my established rules were:
-Don’t accept candy from strangers
-Don’t drink from an open bottle
-Don’t walk home, take a taxi
As soon as I got to the concert I sat down on a couch and started drinking. I was nervous, I hadn’t gone out alone before. Rule number one broken.
That was when I saw a group of friends. Just 3 guys, nothing special, but they looked funny, so I tried getting involved with them. Although, one of them stood out.
They were fun, we joked around until the band actually came on stage. Then one of them offered me candy. Just ’cause he had a couple in his pockets. And being a slightly tipsy teen I gladly accepted. Rule number two broken.
The concert went great, and I knew that I had friends I could go to if I felt awkward. As we were dancing to the music someone from the crowd extended their hand towards us, which had half a bottle of beer in it. I gladly took it, quickly emptying the entire thing. Rule number three broken.
Then after everything ended and we got our autographs, they convinced me to walk home, because we lived in the same area. Rule number four broken.
Two of them reached their home before me, but one walked me home. Just to make sure I’d be okay.
We’ve been together for 10 months now, and whenever someone asks why I don’t obey the rules… I just think back on this occasion. Because if I had not acted the way I did, I might not have met the love of my life.
