The Blogger Recognition Award

I have been nominated for The Blogger Recognition Award! It is a blogger supporting blogger’s award. This means so much to me that other blogger’s are recognizing my work and the work of other bloggers! I am so humbled and awed.

img_9597

I was nominated by Melissa with Disabled Disney make sure you check out her blogger! Thank you so much for nominating me. Blogging has become such a lifeline for me!

Disabled Disney is a family blog and vlog. They know everything about traveling while being disabled and they will tell you their tips!

My favorite quote is on there About the Blog and it says: “Life is not over just because you do things differently then able bodied people.”

How I started my Blog:

When I first started my blog it was because I was in direct sales and it was to help me with getting sales.

Now I write for practice and because I like to. I enjoy connecting with others so at times I will do guest blog series. I write book reviews, about family outings, and series.

My advice to new bloggers is:

  • Blogging is not always easy. You have to promote yourself! Stick with it even when you think you don’t want to any more.
  • Be YOU! Always, no matter what be you! You are your own person! Some people will tell you that if you are going to blog you should only have a blog for books or travel and so on, but I believe that you can write about whatever you want. I write about travel, I write series, I write about what my family is doing, I write book reviews. Basically I do what I want with my blog and I believe that you should too.

The Rules of the Blogger Recognition Award:

Thank the nominator, and publish a post on your blog about receiving the Blogger Recognition Award.

Make sure to provide a link to the nominator’s blog in your post.

The Road to Forever Book Review, Author Interview and Giveaway

img_8949

What the Book is About:

Hannah Gomez has been in love with Ian Salerno since she was sixteen. When her assertive flirtations with him at Sawyer and Karina Bank’s wedding leads to a drunken romp in the bedroom, Hannah is mortified, embarrassed, and no longer a virgin. Determined to put the biggest mistake of her life behind her before he awakens, Hannah escapes with whatever pride she has left.

Ian, Hannah’s late brother-in-law’s best friend, has sworn off relationships forever. Hannah has always been in the background-and someone he has never really noticed much-until now. But after he realizes it was her who shared a passionate rendezvous with him at the wedding, Ian finds he is unable to resist her. But there’s only one problem: he is battling more personal demons than he would like to admit. Now only time will tell if fate has made a mistake by throwing them together or if they will somehow manage to overcome their challenges and find true love.

The Road to Forever is a tale of a young couple’s journey together through obstacles and personal demons after their destinies are intertwined at a wedding.

My Review:

The Road to Forever is the second book in the series (Road Series)! I already felt like I knew most of the characters and I was even more excited to get to know more of the characters in a more in depth love story.  After reading the first book I was so excited to get the second that I read it in a weekend and then I let my mom barrow it to read. We both loved it and do recommend reading it. I was happy to read that this book takes place right after the first, so it was like reading in real life. In this book there were twist and turns that I did not see coming that kept me interested. It go steamy hot, sadness, fights, disagreements, and something that everyone loves, LOVE!

Author Interview: Marla Machado

fb_img_1554125164881

When did you decide to start write this book?  I didn’t so much decide to start writing a book as it picked me.  I was going through some stuff in my life at the time when I started The Road Back and for me reading has always been my escape, one night after maybe a smidge too much wine, Karina and Sawyer started talking to me.  Most people would seek help with that sort of thing, I decided to write them down.
Did you know what your book was going to be able before you started writing or what was that process like?  Not a clue.  I just started writing and scenarios just started coming to me little by little.
What do you like to read about?  I love a happy ending so I tend to choose mostly romances, but I’ll pick up a non fiction book if the topic interests me, most recently I read the book The Operator by Robert O’Neill, the Navy Seal that killed Osama Bin Laden, and when it comes out I’m going to read Howard Stern’s new book, I’m a huge fan of his and this is a book of mostly his interviews I’m really looking forward to it I love history so my first romances were historicals. I also read recently the book James Patterson wrote about Aaron Hernandez.
How did you decide on your cover?  I didn’t want your typical naked chest on the cover, I know it sells books, as one blogger told me, but I’ve always prided myself on deviating from the pack, and since my book is called The Road Back, I wanted something that would show a road, I saw this picture and just fell in love.  For the Road to Forever, there’s a scene where they’re at a lake so I wanted to portray that in the cover and I just again fell in love with this cover.
When writing did you write on paper first or the computer?  iPad actually, then my computer.  I had a blog for a little while where I would review novels and then recommend a wine to pair with that book, I put the first two very raw chapters up on that blog until a friend told me to put this to a word program and flesh it out because she really felt I had something here.
What is your writing process?  I just write.  Then I take a break and go back and flesh out what I’ve written, then write more then flesh that out … etc.
How many unpublished or half written books do you have?  I have one novella i’m writing that is going to be spin off of my Road Series but that’s it right now, I started book 3 but it’s in it’s very infancy right now.
Did you do any research before you wrote your book? No even a little.
Do you plan on writing a 3rd book and any juicy details you would like to share about it?  I do!  Book 3 is going to be about Emily, Karina’s best friend.  She’s not what you think she is and she’s got some serious baggage … 🙂
Do you plan on writing another series after this one? I do – I have an idea about a set of quadruplets that could not be more different from one another if they tried.
What is your favorite part of your book and what part did you have the most difficulty with?  My favorite is always the happy ending – life can get so serious sometimes and it’s not always fun – but in my books I can totally control the outcome.  I guess the most difficult is knowing when to let go.  I always think to my self “hmm totally could have made that way better”.
What do you like to do for fun?  Reading of course, we live in a lake town so going out on the lake is always fun, going out and having a nice dinner with my husband, hiking, watching movies and spending time with friends.
You can find this book on amazonBarnes and Nobel and Kobo ,
Marla was kind enough to give this book to me for a review, so I will be doing a giveaway! The only requirement I have once you get it is that you have to sign the book and send a photo over so I can update the photo. and keep it going!

The Very Best of Tennessee

joshua-ness-109309-unsplash-1440x960Photo by Joshua Ness

If you’re looking to plan a trip to the Nashville area, I’ve got you covered with some cool stuff you can do.

Just a quick note, I won’t be talking about any of the country music stuff because that’s what most people associate Nashville with and there’s way more to it than that. Also, I’m trying to talk about locations that people from out of state or across the state may not know about, or maybe have heard but have never experienced. I will, for the most part, avoid talking about tourist destinations.

I will also be showing you around my hometown, Murfreesboro! It is about 35 minutes south of Nashville, and is growing rapidly. It has a lot of its own fun places but with a more suburban feel.

All information is current as of March 2019. All times listed are in Central Time. All photos were taken by Jackie of The Vibrant Dreamer unless otherwise stated.

Getting Here!

Nashville only has one airport, BNA. It is located between all three major interstates in Tennessee. I would recommend renting a car or taking your own car.

Both Nashville and Murfreesboro have a bus transit system, but I’d still recommend driving yourself. The public transit system is… basically, not great unless you’re just going around downtown Nashville, in which case you can utilize the free Music City Circuit.

There are several lots in downtown Nashville that you can choose from; if you’re planning on visiting several different spots in a day I’d recommend figuring out which lot is best for you based on proximity to your hotel/AirBNB. Or, it may be cheaper for you to take an Uber. It’s really going to depend on what works for you. I am the type of person who prefers to just park once and be done with it, but I am also able-bodied and don’t have children.

Murfreesboro is a more suburban area, so most of the places that aren’t in the heart of downtown will have their own lots. If you are visiting the public square, most of the parking is free for 1-2 hours only. You can park for free all day in the public library parking garage located on Sevier Street, and there is also a parking garage at the Judicial Center located at 225 N. Maple Street.

Fun Activities in Nashville & Murfreesboro

Adventure Science Center – Nashville

(Open every day from 10am-5pm, except for some events)

2550597653_38c3b2265b_o-1440x960Photo by Denise Rosser

The Adventure Science Center is a multi-level, interactive science and technology museum. They feature various science/technology exhibits and also several activities for all ages. Some events are adult-only but most of them are for all age groups.

They also feature a planetarium with a variety of its own events and showings. The planetarium has a separate event list that can be viewed here. Also, on Monday mornings before they officially open, they have an Early Explorers event geared towards children 6 and under! For more information and the event schedule, click here.

You can plan on spending a long time there, as there’s a lot to do and see! It’s possible to spend several hours there and still not see everything, so this is definitely not something you’d want to rush. They do have a Subway restaurant inside, and you are permitted to leave the center and come back, as long as you keep your ticket receipt for re-entry.

Nashville Zoo at Grassmere – Nashville

(Open 9am-6pm: March 8, 2019 – October 10, 2019

Open 9am-4pm: October 11, 2019 – March 2020)

I know zoos are not everyone’s cup of tea, but if you and your family enjoy them the Nashville one is a good experience.

The food at the zoo is tasty, but it’s expensive. If you are on a budget, I recommend bringing your own food– there are plenty of tables/benches to sit at to eat. Save your money for something from the gift shop if you are looking to spend money at the zoo.

A must-see exhibit is the Kangaroo Kickabout! It’s a quite popular exhibit, but absolutely worth it. You can go through the exhibit on a path where the kangaroos are just out, so you get to be closer to them than you normally would (but you still have to stay on the path). There are usually crowds, and last time I went there was a line… but it’s worth the wait.

They recently added a cool thing called the Veterinary Center… that I haven’t even been to yet, that’s how new it is! You can see how the animals are taken care of at the zoo, and learn about animal conservation and care as well.

It usually takes around 2-3 hours to see everything, but possibly longer with children.

Mewsic Kitty Cafe – Nashville

(Open Thursday-Sunday from 11am-6pm)

mikhail-vasilyev-253977-unsplash-1440x900

Nashville’s first cat cafe!!! If you aren’t familiar with cat cafes, basically they are a place where you can get some coffee/tea/pastries and play with some cute cats who are available for adoption. You can get some much-needed cat therapy!

They will only accept walk-ins if there is space, so if you need a specific time slot a reservation is your best bet. You can book online up to three months in advance. The cafe does recommend that you arrive approximately ten minutes before your appointment.

Cheekwood Estate & Gardens – Nashville

(open Tuesday-Sunday from 9am-5pm; hours may vary by event and season)

things-to-do-nashville-cheekwood-1440x960

A gorgeous 1930s estate that now serves Nashville as a botanical garden and art museum.

They feature 55 acres of gardens for your viewing pleasure. Cheekwood also hosts several events throughout the year; their calendar is here in case you want to see if any of them coincide with your visit!

Honestly my favorite thing to do here is just… walk around and be in nature. This might be a good chance for you and your family / significant other to just unplug from technology and be outside.

Go USA Fun Park – Murfreesboro

(Open Sunday-Thursday 10am-10pm; Friday 10am-1am; Saturday 9am-1am)

IMG_2153-1440x1080

There’s something here for everyone– Go karts, mini golf, driving range, batting cages, and a pretty big arcade. You can easily spend hourshere, and if you have kids they probably won’t want to leave… that’s how I was when I was a kid, anyway.

Insider Tip: Take the entrance from Robert Rose Drive to avoid a traffic nightmare!

Stones River Battlefield – Murfreesboro

(open 8am-5pm)

One of the bloodiest battles of the Civil War occurred here in 1862. Today, it showcases several walking trails, guided tours (May-October) and a visitor’s center. They do also offer self-guided audio tours year round. Across the street from the visitor’s center is the Stones River National Cemetery, where over 6,000 soldiers rest.

You can also visit the remnants of Fortress Rosecrans, which was the largest fortification built during the Civil War. There are walking trails there that are also connected to Murfreesboro’s public walkway system, called the Greenway. The Battlefield itself also has some trails you can walk.

Cannonsburgh Village – Murfreesboro

(official hours vary by season; typically 9am-4pm Tuesday-Saturday)

Cannonsburgh is a historic village that represents what life was like in Tennessee in the 19th and early 20th Century. You can go on a self-guided tour for free and purchase souvenirs for your trip (such as post cards and t-shirts) in the on-site gift shop.

The official season is May-November; you can still visit the grounds in the off season but some of the buildings aren’t open. The grounds are occasionally rented out for private events, so if you’re concerned about that you may want to call ahead to be sure it’s available.

The Best Shopping & Entertainment Destinations in Nashville & Murfreesboro

Printer’s Alley – Nashville

IMG_1875

Historic Printer’s Alley is one of Nashville’s smaller entertainment districts with a more relaxed nightlife/bar vibe. The nightlife isn’t as “bustling” as the more touristy areas; it’s more of an area where the city is trying to preserve history, but you still get a slice of the old-school Nashville culture.

If you prefer a more energetic vibe, head a few blocks over to Broadway!

12South – Nashville

JPEG-image-87FB49D88D48-3-1440x1920

Home to some trendy places and some iconic Nashville Murals. This is probably one of my favorite parts of Nashville. Plenty of great places to grab a meal (honestly… there’s enough options here for all three meals!), amazing coffee, cookies, and take pictures. It’s also the home of Reese Witherspoon’s clothing boutique, Draper James.

The Gulch – Nashville

bailey-hall-537278-unsplash-1440x943

Super trendy neighborhood with a more urban feel. Home of the infamous “What Lifts You” mural… which, by the way, people wait in line to take pictures with! There is A LOT to see and do in The Gulch; from breweries to shopping… there’s something for everyone!

McKay Media – Nashville West

(Open Monday-Thursday 9am-9pm; Friday-Saturday 9am-10pm; Sunday 11am-7pm)

jonas-jacobsson-545909-unsplash-1440x960

You can literally spend HOURS in here. They sell all kinds of used media and entertainment ranging from books to comics to video games to CDs to instruments to games to… basically anything of that nature you can think of. It’s two levels and there is SO much to see. If you’re a lover of books and entertainment, you should absolutely check it out.

Public Square – Murfreesboro

Murfreesboro’s public square and the surrounding streets have quite a few fun little shops, boutiques, bakeries, and restaurants. You could probably spend a couple hours looking around here. If you like theatre, check out what’s showing at the Centre for the Arts; they also have a gallery featuring local artists that changes each month.

Quinn’s Mercantile – Murfreesboro

2F9EDD62-8ADB-4A82-AF3C-7934B5845EB0-1440x1920

The best place to shop for unique gifts to take home to your friends and family, so they can have a slice of your trip as well! It’s near the public square, but slightly away from it so if you don’t know it’s there you might miss it! Don’t forget to pick something up for yourself, too.

The Very Best of Florida

Why I Became an Instant Floridian

(after relocating from the Midwest)

Oooo, another exciting assignment from Jessica. This time, I get to share about the state I currently reside in- Florida.

I’m not from here.  I grew up in the New England state of Connecticut. And then, after college, I lived in the Midwestern state of Ohio for some time.  Ohio, also known as the Buckeye State, is where a lot of my extended family live. It’s where I still have a lot of friends, where I met and married my husband, and where my son was born.

But Florida is where I am now, and hopefully where I will stay. I love it here.

Having been here for four years, or most of my son’s elementary school career, I pretty much consider myself a local now.  So, why do I love this state so much?

Vacation Destination

Let’s face it- I live where pretty much everyone else wants to go for vacation.

Florida is the number one vacation destination in the world, and Families flock here from all over the globe.  This is in part thanks to Universal and Walt Disney World. But we are also the home to the Kennedy Space Center, Lego Land, South Beach, Busch Gardens, and Key West.

Oh, and did you by chance hear about our beaches? Clearwater Beach is continuously rated as one of the top ten in the World, and that’s just one of them. There’s also St Pete Beach, Longboat Key, Siesta Key, Amelia Island, Panama City, and because it’s more than just a hot spot for nightlife, South Beach.

23794785_10212732419239672_4388097676735212613_n
Tampa has Bayshore Boulevard. It’s the longest connected sidewalk in the world (4 & 1/2 miles) and has its own Wikepedia page.

Sporting Events

With no less than three major tv markets (Miami, Tampa and Orlando), and one decent midsize one (Jacksonville), we have no shortage of professional sports here.

In Tampa alone, we have the Lightning (NHL), the Buccaneers (NFL), and the Rays (MLB). An hour’s drive to Orlando, and you’ve got the Magic (NBA). We’re also home to spring training to many other major league baseball teams (Yankees, Pirates, Phillies, Blue Jays), and several minor league teams.

55604811_10216570504749411_9128344708609736704_n

Tampa is also host to two College Football Bowl games a year (Gasparilla and Outback), and frequently hosts the College Football Championship game. We’re also getting ready to host the Super Bowl again in 2021.

Is Auto racing your thing? Tampa hosts the St. Petersburg Grand Prix every year, and we are only a few hours away from the Daytona 500 and Sebring.

Regular Family Life

I’m a working Mom, so my life involves a lot more than beaches and sporting events. Actually, one of the main reasons we moved down here to Florida was because of a job opportunity. Tampa, Orlando, and Miami are all bustling metros, with lots of different industries.  Finance, Construction, Medical, Education are just some of the areas you can find lots of open positions in, on top of all the work available in hospitality.

Florida is also a good place to raise a family. One of the reasons I specifically like Tampa is that it feels a lot like the Midwest to me (not weather-wise of course). It probably has a little to do with the fact that there’s a lot of transplants from the Midwest here, but it’s just a friendly place to live.

17362436_10210533516828486_5008074987644549877_n

And we have a lot of the family-oriented things that you would want in your city, such as Scouts, a vibrant YMCA, great parent-teacher organizations, and lots of parks.

The Downsides

If you ever want to move to Florida, there are some things you should probably know. First, it’s hot and humid during the extra-long summer, and the Mosquitos are relentless year-round.

Traffic is insane no matter which one of our major cities that you live close to.  There are never any shortcuts, and everything is a toll road. If you’re lucky enough to live near water, like we are, your rush hour commute may have the extra bonus of needing to cross the only bridge that can get you and everyone else to where you’re going.

There are no income taxes in Florida, yay!  So, they make up for it in everything else, Nooo!

License plate renewal fees, sales taxes, property taxes, they get you everywhere. Which is probably part of the reason why the cost of living is a little higher here than in the Midwest.

Oh, and we also have hurricanes and alligators.  And did I mention the &%#@ mosquitos.

I love it here

Yes, we have bugs, but here are some things we don’t have- snow, ice, sleet, slush, polar vortexes, short summers, freezing winters.

We have jobs, sports, beaches, amusement parks.

And we have water.  As I get stuck on the bridge in rush hour traffic, I stare off into the big, beautiful Tampa Bay waters, and all of my troubles just seem to float away.

I realize how lucky I am to live here. I may be from New England, and maybe turned into a little bit of a midwestern girl during my time in Ohio. But I’m in Florida now, and I love it here.

  1. Why do you enjoy blogging? I enjoy thinking outside of the box and doing something for me and only me. 2. What is your favorite way to spend a lazy weekend? One of my favorite things to do is binge watch TV series either on Netflix or hulu. I have watched a lot. I wonder if people would be interested in TV show reviews… hmm. Might post some and see if I get any interaction.

  4. Can you keep a secret? Yes, but I will most likely end up telling my husband. I can barley keep presents a secret from him.

The Road Back Book Review and Giveaway

img_8625

What the book is about:

It has been a year since Karina Hawkins learned her husband had been killed in the line of duty. Now as she does her best to raise their young twin daughters alone, Karina decides to return to work in another attempt to rebuild her broken life. But when she arrives at a tech company to begin her new role as general counsel, she has no idea what awaits her inside.

Sawyer Banks has never forgotten Karina. Although he is a man with few regrets, losing the love of his life is one of them. Now that Karina is available and he is her new boss, he has every intention of getting her back and he is not stopping until she is his again. Although their chemistry is undeniably delicious, Karina is uncertain if they can overcome the hurt and secrets between them. But when a threat from her past returns and places her family in danger, Sawyer must prove if he is strong enough to stand by her and not abandon her once again.

In this erotic romance, a widow passionately reconnects with her soul mate just as her past comes back to haunt her, leaving them both to wonder if their relationship will survive.

My Recommendation:

I enjoyed this book so much! It was happy, sad, super sad, hot, steamy, interesting and sexy! Pretty much everything I love in a book! I could read this book and imagine it happening, maybe someday it could be a movie! I highly recommend reading this book! I didn’t want to put the book down. I need and wanted to know what was going to happen next. It kept me interested and excited to see how it ended. I needed and wanted a good happy ending. There are some major twist in the book that I did not see coming and that was also part of the fun of reading. Each character in the book I felt like I knew and I can’t wait to read the next book that Marla is sending me.

Buy Me a Coffee at ko-fi.com

Branson, MO

Over the past weekend we went to Branson for an extending weekend the first part of our son’s Spring Break at school. We left on Friday morning after his dad dropped him off. First stop was breakfast (MCD’s) and then we were on our way. I drove the first part and then my husband drove. I read and even took a nap. Its not a far drive right at 3.5-4 hours. Check in was not until around 3 so we stopped at Branson Landing first and walked around. We went in to some stores and had a late lunch at Joe’s Crab Shack it was delish! After that we went to our resort and checked in.

Frist stop was to go race some Go-Karts at Wild Woody! I must say I ALMOST kicked the boy’s butt’s! (haha!) Unfortunately there are no photo’s of me claiming first, so you will just have to take my word for it. It was a fun track and is all wood and it there were looped-d-loops!

Once we were finished there we went to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! That place was so neat! There was so much to see and do. At the very end there is a spot where you are supposed to walk across, but it looks like you are spinning and that you might fall over. At the end of the hallway there is a mirror that is spinning and it creates an unbalanced feeling.  Ethan went around it 2-3 times before I could even do it because I thought I was spinning and/or that I might fall.

After that we went to our resort relaxed and went to bed.

Saturday morning we woke up early and worked out. YES you read that right, we worked out! After that we showered and then we had breakfast and had to listen to Larry make a pitch about how we should be a timeshare…. HMMM… I keep on going back and forth on if we should do that.  We did NOT, but we did buy something that will allow us 1 more vacation and possible some getaways.

After that we went to the outlet mall.

Once we were finished shopping we had lunch at Drafts. Sometimes I have the hardest time picking out food. So luckily the person taking our order pretty much picked out my order and I am super happy he did because it was chicken nachos and they were so good!

After we were done eating we were going to go swimming, but the pool was closed because someone got sick in it. Ethan seems to have the worst luck with pools. (For one of his birthday’s we decided to do a pool party, but once the party started in the pool someone POOPED! So, of course they couldn’t swim.) So we decided to take a short nap before we head off to the show we plan on seeing.

We were on our way to see The Haygoods! They are very talented and we enjoyed the show very much! I want to go back and see their Christmas show! Take a close look at the photo’s as YES there is someone hanging upside down playing the guitar! I can barley clap to the beat, so when I hear and see talented people I just get all kinds of goosebumps!

Afterwards, we checked out a place for diner right next to the theater and it was pretty cool. They had a real jukebox and it was very vintage looking, inside and out. I loved the exterior. I think that’s what caught our eyes. I just went to the website so I could post it here and come to find out they even do shows there!! Jackie B. Goode’s Uptown Café; we will be back!

Where we had dinner!

On Sunday we went to the Hollywood Wax Museum. I got to see my lover Justin Timberlake and we took photos with almost every celebrity in there. It was a really neat experience! Some of them look so real! They told us as we were walking in that you cannot touch them, but oh my the temptation of being told not to and wanting to was real for our 13 year old son and well maybe even for me too.

img_8356

We played some mini golf after, then headed over to a mirror maze. I think we found the exit 3 times before we even realized it was the exit. I think that was the fun part of it. It was pretty fun!

img_8415
This was in the mirror maze!

After that we went swimming and had a great time in the pool It was a little chilly, but once we got in we were good to go!

When we were finished there we went back to the Landing to see the water show that we heard so much about. Honestly, I liked it, but it wasn’t as spectator as some had said.

The next day Ethan and I went to a Fritz’ Adventure Park and it was really cool. Didn’t get any pictures of this, cause they wanted to charge us for a full priced ticket just to go down there.  Inside you could climb, go down slides, go underground, it was a blast. By the end I was sweaty and felt like I had a full work out done!

My awesome husband went and got Ethan a sword he was wanting from Ozarkland. He collects knifes and swords and stuff like that. Typical boy. We stopped at celebrity car museum on our way out that had cars outside that we wanted to see, maybe next time we will go inside the museum and see all of the cars.

On our way home, we stopped at Uranus Fudge Factory and ran into the besties. We didn’t even know they were there, so that was pretty cool.  It’s always good to run into them!

We had a great long weekend road trip and a fun time in Branson. Now to plan another trip… Where to go, where to go?!

Thank you for reading.
